He offers comprehensive psychiatric consultations, diagnostic assessments and personalised treatment plans for adults experiencing a wide range of mental health difficulties. His approach is centred on understanding each individual within the wider context of their personal circumstances, relationships, experiences and goals.

Services include:

  • Comprehensive adult psychiatric assessments
  • Assessment and treatment of a wide range of mental health conditions
  • ADHD assessments
  • Autism assessments

  • Medication assessment and management
  • Psychological and therapeutic interventions
  • Trauma-focused treatment, including EMDR
  • Follow-up and ongoing psychiatric care

Psychiatric Assessment

An initial psychiatric consultation usually lasts approximately 50 minutes, allowing sufficient time for a detailed and comprehensive assessment. Autism assessments require longer appointments due to the additional information and assessment involved. Follow-up consultations generally last 20–30 minutes.

During the initial consultation, Dr Tareen takes a detailed clinical history, exploring current symptoms, when and how they developed, their impact on everyday life, previous treatment, relevant medical history, and personal and family background.

Following the assessment, Dr Tareen will discuss his clinical findings and develop an individualised treatment plan with the patient. Depending on the person’s circumstances and preferences, this may include supportive counselling, specific psychological or therapeutic interventions, medication, or a combination of approaches.

Trauma & EMDR Expertise

Dr Tareen has a particular interest and extensive experience in the assessment and treatment of psychological trauma.

He is an EMDR Europe Accredited EMDR Trainer and uses Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) as part of his approach to trauma-focused treatment. He also provides focused, short-term therapeutic interventions where appropriate.

His interest in trauma extends beyond individual clinical practice. Dr Tareen successfully led an international trauma-treatment capacity-building initiative, designed to develop knowledge, skills and access to trauma-focused treatment in developing countries.

Experience You Can Trust

With a psychiatric career spanning more than three decades, Dr Tareen combines extensive experience in clinical psychiatry, community mental health, trauma treatment and senior NHS leadership.

His approach is comprehensive and individualised, with an emphasis on careful assessment, clear communication and developing treatment plans tailored to the needs and circumstances of each patient.
